Every day is a holiday in Hervey Bay, the whale watching capital of the world and gateway to the World Heritage listed Fraser Island! The Whale Festival happens every August, starting with the Blessing of the Fleet and culminating with the Whale Day Family Fun Carnival and Illuminated Street Parade. The foreshore of the City has 14 kms of shared pedestrian, wheelchair and bicycle pathways. Bordered by 40 kms of pristine beaches there is plenty to do both on land and sea. The north-facing sheltered waters of Hervey Bay are protected by Fraser Island and offer a perfect swimming and fishing environment. There are excellent educational, community and health facilities throughout the region and all the amenities that a family could need. Hervey Bay City prides itself on accessibility with shopfronts, streetscaping, beach access, scenic pathways and public infrastructure designed to be easily accessible for people using wheelchairs or mobility scooters. The region has a full range of educational opportunities - from pre-school to tertiary. Families can choose state or independent schools for both primary and secondary education. Students can also further their studies at the University of Southern Queensland campus in Hervey Bay or the Wide Bay TAFE facility. Construction and associated support industries, aquaculture, food processing, light engineering and manufacturing, aircraft-related industries, maritime services, education, IT and telecommunications, multimedia, aged and health care services, retail and, of course, tourism are key growth areas for the Fraser Coast. Hervey Bay is close to the many attractions of the Sunshine Coast, the Heritage City of Maryborough, the South Burnett as well as Bundaberg and the Great Barrier Reef. |
